Where Is My Favorites Menu?

How to recover Favorites after Windows 10 upgrade…

You spend a lot of time perfecting your Favorites Menu in Internet Explorer, and now it’s up and disappeared. Where did all of those highly curated folders with your sports news, recipe, life hacks and music blogs go? How do you get that nifty little toolbar back in your life?

Not to worry, because you’re just a couple clicks away from getting your Favorites Menu back, and now you’ll know how to quickly hide and retrieve the toolbar any time you want without losing any of the info contained in it. The process is slightly different for each Internet browser, so find the one you’re using from the list of the most popular browsers below and follow the step-by-step instructions to get that Favorites Menu back.

If yours isn’t listed, the instructions should be similar for most browser types.

Internet Explorer

1. Launch Internet Explorer and check that you have the latest version. Update if necessary.

2. Right click on an empty area on the title bar—on the top, near the tabs.

3. Left click on Favorites Bar to select it from the context menu that pops up.

4. Use the Ctrl+Shift+B keyboard shortcut to quickly retrieve your Favourites Menu.

5. Left click on Lock the Toolbars from the context menu to prevent the Toolbar from disappearing again.

Google Chrome

1. Launch Google Chrome and check that you have the latest version. Update if necessary.

2. Click on the Chrome Menu button to the right of the address bar at the top of the browser window.

3. Select Bookmarks in the drop down menu and Show Bookmarks Bar, which will now appear below the address bar.

4. Use the Ctrl+Shift+B keyboard shortcut to call up the Bookmarks Bar in Google Chrome.

Mozilla Firefox

1. Launch Mozilla Firefox and check that you have the latest version. Update if necessary.

2. Right click on an empty area on the title bar—on the top, near the tabs.

3. Left click on Bookmarks Toolbar from the context menu to make the toolbar visible. Selecting Bookmarks Toolbar when the toolbar is already visible will hide it.

4. Use the Ctrl+Shift+B keyboard shortcut to quickly open the Bookmarks Toolbar options at any time.

If these instructions don’t bring your Favorites Menu back, that could be a sign of something gone missing on your hard disk. For example, Internet Explorer stores the list and links from your favorite sites on you computer’s hard disk, so if the file goes missing, gets moved or gets corrupted the toolbar won’t appear in the browser because it now contains no information. To determine if this is what happened, simply do a search of your files for the phrase “favorites bar”.

Finally, we can’t rule out the possibility of a toolbar being hijacked by Trojans or web viruses that may affect your browser in unpredictable ways. One sign of possible viruses is files and documents moving to new locations on your hard disk, seemingly on their own. If you suspect a virus, use scanning software immediately to diagnose, isolate and remove the intruder completely.
